Gentlemen- Welcome to 2010, and a new year! I will cut to the chase and not bore you with the fluff. As you may know or have heard, the active Chico Chapter has had its struggles of recent. There will be some unfortunate changes in the near future, but these changes will not interfere with our 2010 Alumni Weekend. More details on the chapter and the transition plan to follow in the months to come
For those like myself, I didn’t realize this is the 25th anniversary of the Chico Chapter’s colonization. It is my hope that this year will result in the greatest turn-out of returning alumni for our weekend celebration! Although exact details have not been finalized, I can provide some initial details.
2010 Alumni Weekend is April 30-May 2nd
This weekend was purposely selected to coincide with Riley’s Alumni Weekend. For those who have spouses/girlfriends/ or other Chico alumni friends attending, the more the merrier. I have the privilege of attending both our Alumni Weekend and Riley’s Alumni Weekend, and although my liver will argue different- it was a great experience parting like we were in college 15-20 years ago. For those who don’t know, our beloved Joe’s was torn down a month ago. It is my understanding that construction has begun on a new Joe’s watering hole, and that it “should” be completed before Alumni Weekend. I will be shocked and amazed if construction meets this timeframe, but if Joe’s pulls this together- what better was to christen the “new” Joes, but with 100 Delta Chi’s cheering to Orange Crushes and Bloody Joes! I’ve worked out initial logistics with the General Manager at Riley’s. Similar to last year, I will have door-passes for all the weekend attendees. This should help with in/out privileges, even on a HUGE weekend.
In addition to Riley’s Alumni weekend, it will be both Theta Chi and Sigma Chi’s weekend too. I’m in communication with both Alumni counterparts for a possible Thi-Chi event- possible slosh ball tourney with shuttle buses have been discussed.(more details to come in the following weeks)
As you can see, this is going to be a fantastic event for both past Chico Alumni/ Riley’s patrons and Delta Chi. That being said, the immediate urgency is reserving your hotel rooms.
I’ve contacted three hotels downtown already, and they are well aware of the alumni weekend on all fronts. I did place a courtesy hold on (40) rooms at the formerly/ newly renovated Quality Inn- the motel formerly know as the T-bird! The group name is: DELTA CHI. Please ask for Molik, pronounced (Mo-Leek). He can be reached at 530.343.7911 All rooms will be $69.99/night, and there are (20) double-doubles, (10) queens and (10) kings currently reserved.
Below are a few other local hotels that have rooms available:
- Heritage Inn 530.343.4527 rate $74.99/night
- Vagabond Inn 530.895.1323 rate $62.10/night
As the Alumni Weekend chair, I need assistance getting the word out to everyone. I will post follow up details on our Yahoo Group site, the www.ChicoDeltaChi.org website and the Facebook group page http://groups.to/deltachichico/ … but I need your assistance spreading the word and motivating those on the fence or less interested. It was great to see 50 alumni last year, but I would like to see 100-150 this year on our 25th anniversary. Volunteer to carpool, pickup, or fly-out those guys that just “can’t get off the fence”. It would be easy to be disappointed with the current events, and use it as an excuse not to attend…. But this weekend deserves a celebration! There will be more details in the upcoming weeks/months, but start recruiting guys and RESERVE YOUR HOTELS immediately.
